Magical Mud: The Wonders of Bentonite Clay

October 3, 2017

What is Bentonite Clay?

Why should it be a STAPLE in your hair and skin care routines?

Read on for these answers and more!

What is it?

Bentonite clay is a 100% natural healing clay is a greyish fine powder derived from volcanic ash that can be found throughout the world. Its healing properties originate from its ability to produce an electric charge when it comes in contact with a liquid. This electric charge allows it to absorb toxins, impurities and other chemicals. This magical property has made it a staple in beauty treatments since the prehistoric era.

The Ultimate Skin Detox

My absolute favorite way to use bentonite clay is as a quick and simple two ingredient face masks. Since bentonite clay soaks up toxins when water is applied it leaves any pesky pimples running for the hills, shrinks my pores, and controls oil. All this with two ingredients and 20 minutes tops!

The Step by Step

1. Combine water and clay at a 2:1 ratio in a NON METALLIC bowl ( Remember the clay absorbs toxins and heavy metals)

2. Mix until a thick paste is formed and apply over your face and neck

3. Let it do its magic for about 20 minutes, rinse and apply rich moisturizing oil such as rosehip oil  or a hydrating cream.

I generally apply this detox mask 2 to 3 times a week and after ever mask I have noticed lighter scars. super smooth skin and a radiant glow. It performs just about as well as my higher end beauty creams and it is super inexpensive! Get yours HERE  Talk about a win, win WIN.

Clarifying Hair Mask

My second favorite use for bentonite clay is as a hair masks. Sometimes even with the purest products my hair has the tendency to look a little gloomy after a while. That is when I know it's time for my clay mask to swoop in and save the day. I start with the same ratio as used in the face mask and then just massage the paste into my hair starting at the roots and let it sit for about 10 minutes. If I'm in need of a deep clarifying treatment I rinse it out with lavender water and Apple Cider Vinegar. This does the trick EVERY time.

Needless to say, bentonite clay is definitely a holy grail product for any natural skincare or haircare routine.

Have you tried any of these uses or what have you used it for?
